Lïlï Dauphinee
Lïlï Dauphinee is an internationally exhibited and published Canadian contemporary artist living and working on the Caribbean coast of Belize. Her mixed-media practice moves between abstraction and figuration, exploring themes of human connection, individuality, and the illusion of separation.
Combining expressive colour, layered textures, rhythmic repetition, and playful, unconventional figures, Dauphinee has developed a distinctive visual language that celebrates both our differences and our shared humanity.
Her work has been featured in international publications and exhibitions and is held in private collections worldwide. From thousands of tiny human forms to enigmatic women inhabiting richly patterned interiors, her paintings invite viewers to reconsider the boundaries between ourselves and one another.
Why it works in wool
Dauphinee’s bold colour fields, graphic silhouettes, and rhythmic patterns lend themselves naturally to hand-tufted wool. The tactile medium gives physical dimension to her layered compositions, transforming painted marks into sculptural surfaces and patterned garments into richly textured forms. The result is a playful dialogue between painting and textile, where colour, texture, and form become something you can almost feel with your eyes.
