Rushati Chowdhury
Rushati Chowdhury is an illustrator living between India and Italy, where raw craftsmanship meets the quiet poetry of everyday life.
Her delicate, whimsical paintings blur the line between the mundane and escapism, drifting through memories, musings and life’s fleeting moments. Working swiftly with pencil, ink and gouache, she is guided by instinct rather than perfection. Her art lives in the in-between: memory and moment, raw and unpolished, honest and tender, capturing the half-remembered and almost-forgotten in all their quiet, imperfect beauty.
Why it belongs in wool
Rushati’s loose lines, intimate figures and botanical motifs lend themselves to the softness of tufted wool. Raised outlines preserve the gesture of a pencil or ink mark, while varied pile heights give flowers, foliage and everyday objects a quiet, sculptural presence. The warmth and natural irregularity of hand tufting carry her tender, unpolished sensibility into a tactile piece, holding the small memories and fleeting moments that run through her paintings.
