How It Started
It started in a Hong Kong design studio.
Years ago we met as colleagues at a design studio in Hong Kong — two people who couldn't stop talking about texture, colour, and the way a single object changes how a room feels. Life eventually brought us both to Seattle on different paths: Olivia kept designing, Vanessa moved into software engineering. But the pull toward beautiful, tactile things never left. So we decided not to let it go — and built Hewn Earth to chase it, together.

Every design is drawn — and every colour chosen — by us in our Seattle studio. Olivia leads the design; Vanessa builds the world around it. Our designs are our own; we don't work from catalogues. It's slow, deliberate, and entirely ours.

A lot of what's sold online is an AI rendering — an image you're asked to trust. We do it the other way round. Because every piece is hand-tufted to order, we can make a real 1:1 swatch of your exact design — same wool, same density, same hand-carved pile — and send it to your door in about a week.
