Hand-tufting is a centuries-old textile technique. An artisan uses a hand-held tufting gun to punch loops of wool yarn through a stretched canvas backing, following a design transferred onto the fabric. After the tufting is complete, the piece is trimmed and carved by hand to reveal texture, depth, and colour transitions. Every Hewn Earth piece takes 40+ hours of hand-work from start to finish.

New Zealand wool has qualities you can feel: longer staple length for less shedding, natural crimp for resilience, high lanolin for softness and water resistance, and remarkable whiteness that takes colour like nothing else. Our wool is sourced from ZQ-certified farms committed to animal welfare and land stewardship.

Both are hand-tufted from the same New Zealand wool. The 80% Blend adds 20% nylon for extra resilience and colourfastness — ideal for family rooms, kids' spaces, and high-light homes. The 100% Wool is pure fiber with a deeper hand that softens beautifully over years. Same design, your choice.

Not all. Some intricate designs need larger scale to render properly in wool. When you see a design available only from medium upward, that's a choice we made together with the design, not a limitation. The wool needs room to show what it can do.

Designed in the USA and hand-tufted and finished by our artisan partners in China. Made in China. Every piece is inspected, photographed, and quality-approved before it ships from China to you with duties and import taxes prepaid.

We colour-match every batch to samples we've approved. Because wool is a natural fiber, minor batch-to-batch variation is part of the material's character — never a defect. If the difference is significant, our warranty covers replacement.

Total time from order to your door: 3-4 weeks. Roughly 2 weeks for hand-tufting production, then 3-7 days for shipping depending on your location. Every order includes tracking sent to your email once it ships.

Yes. We ship anywhere via DDP (Delivered Duties Paid) — all duties, taxes, and customs fees are included in your order total. No surprise charges at delivery.

Each piece is rolled around a padded core, wrapped in acid-free tissue paper, placed in a Hewn Earth cream canvas dust bag, then packed in a sturdy kraft shipping tube. Everything designed to arrive in perfect condition.

Depending on your carrier, packages may be left at your door, held at a local pickup point, or require signature. Once shipped, you'll receive tracking with delivery updates. For high-value or larger orders, we recommend selecting signature-required delivery at checkout.
